the metamorphosis of a motif

The butterfly symbolises transformation and change. Originally planned as a moth, it has naturally transformed into its own form – a perfect metaphor for growth and creative processes.

This picture was created when I was looking for a motif for my moon calendar. Originally, I wanted to use a moth for it. But during the design process, I accidentally forgot the fine hairs on the antennae – so the moth became a butterfly. Sometimes the most beautiful things are created by small coincidences.

I used a combination of watercolours and gouache for this artwork. The gentle colour gradients of the watercolour technique meet the opaque intensity of the gouache paints and give the motif a special depth.

The main colours are soft shades of petrol, green and blue, complemented by subtle dark details. This choice of colours conveys a calm, natural and almost mystical aura.
